CINE LEX CRITICA - 2024
EVENT OVERVIEW:
The event attempts to combine the study of law with the art of film, inspiring students to see films from a legal perspective and make meaningful connections to morality, justice, and society ideals. Totally 18 teams from Tamil Nadu participated in the event , who keenly delved into the concept of legal storytelling in cinema. A wide range of films with strong legal themes were shown to the participants, including crime thrillers, courtroom dramas, and socially conscious films that addressed important legal and human rights issues.
CHIEF GUESTS:
The chief guests for the event were Mr. Sachin Raj B.A.B.L ( HONS )., LL.M Advocate, Madras High court, Founder of Chennai Justice Law Academy and an author of the book “INDIAN FILM LAW”and Ms. Deepalakshmi B.A.B.L ( HONS )., LL.M. (criminal law with cyber crime ) Deputy Manager - Legal Lyca productions private limited
EVENT HIGHLIGHTS :
● The event began with the welcome address by the student coordinator crew by the felicitation of the chief guests of the event and also by highlighting the role of legal concepts in movies and the influence of media on the public.
● Every team contested in the event was allotted a movie to review and present their legal perspectives involved in that film. It was evaluated by esteemed judges of the panel who assessed the participants based on their analytical skills, depth of understanding, originality, and presentation.
● The competition consisted of 3 rounds ( The pilot, second half and the climax - with four segments ) - for every round the participants were eliminated based on their scores in the previous round. From the 18 contestants the best 8 teams were selected to the second half and from that 3 teams were selected for the final round ( the climax ).
● Special attention was given to how the participants linked the on-screen narratives to broader legal principles and societal concerns.
● The 3rd round mediation was done by Mr. Arun kumar, event organizer and faculty coordinator of Department of labor law
OUTCOME :
The event concluded with an award ceremony, the top three winners were recognized and celebrated.

Runner: Papathi & Mahalakshmi, Faculty of Law, MGR University
Best Reviewer: Hemanth, School of Law, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology
The winners received certificates and trophies as tokens of recognition for their outstanding contributions.
CLOSING REMARKS:
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Manonmani, event organizer and faculty coordinator of the Department of Criminal Law by thanking the guest of honor and the institution for making this event a successful one. CINE LEX CRITICA – Second Edition was not just a competition but a meaningful initiative that blended the worlds of cinema and law, offering students a platform to express their legal perspectives while engaging with creative storytelling.
