EXPERT LECTURE ON MAINTENANCE AND WELFARE OF PARENTS AND SENIOR CITIZEN ACT, 2007
The expert lecture on Protection of elders and senior citizen against all forms of abuse was conducted on 16-06-2023 on account of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day celebrated by UN on 15 th June every year. The lecture covered all the aspects of MAINTENANCE AND WELFARE OF PARENTS AND SENIOR CITIZEN ACT,2007. The lecture focused primarily on prevention as well as protection available in our legal system against abuses of all forms. It aims to highlight the importance of protecting and promoting the rights of older individuals and creating a society that values and respects their dignity and well-being. In India, where the elderly population is growing, it is crucial to address elder abuse and take steps to protect the elderly from such abuses. Elder abuse refers to any form of mistreatment, neglect, or harm inflicted upon older adults. It can occur in various settings, including homes, institutions, and communities. The abuse can take different forms, such as physical, emotional, financial, or sexual abuse, as well as neglect or abandonment. Elder abuse not only violates the rights of older individuals but also has severe physical, psychological, and social consequences.
The lecture successfully incorporated all the procedural aspects to be followed while implementing the MAINTENANCE AND WELFARE OF PARENTS AND SENIOR CITIZEN ACT, 2007.
