Saveetha School of Law conducted a webinar on The art of legal writing and it was co ordinated by Student coordinator: A.BEULA CHRISMAK DARIUS, 5th year, BBA LLB (Hons) and Faculty coordinator Asst. Prof. Bhuvaneshwari. The Webinar began at 11:00pm and went upto 12:00pm on 11.12.2020. The Resource person was Mrs. Maheshwary Mohan who is a practicing advocate. The resource person explained about the fundamentals of legal writing and then explained the ingredients of writing in a clear, concise and precise manner and gave an important message about drafting legal documents. Then she explained macro- clarity in writing, which involves structuring the document in a way that gives the participants a preview of the key elements with the aid of road maps. Then the resource person concluded by explaining the “lawyerly language” which needs to be simplified. The student coordinator concluded the meeting by thanking the speaker and the students at 12:00pm, which marks the end of the webinar.

An overview of protection of children from sexual offenses Act 2012

On 9th December, 2020, a webinar on ‘An Overview of Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012’ was conducted by the resource person Mrs. Adhilakshmi Logamurthy, a practicing advocate and a social activist. She gave a brief introduction of the POCSO Act and discussed about various sexual abuses faced by children. She then gave insights of a survey which revealed that more than half of the children in general population face some form of sexual abuse at least once. In addition, she highlighted the insufficiency of the Indian Penal Code in protecting children from sexual abuse, which in turn gave way to the implementation of POCSO Act in 2012. Furthermore, the objectives, offences and punishments under the act were discussed along with few criticisms. The session was informative and much needed for law students given the recent increase in crimes against children.
