"Madras through the Lens," - A Photography Exhibition

On August 10, 2024, the Saveetha School of Law (SSL) hosted a remarkable event, "Madras Through The Lens," a photography exhibition organized by the Department of International Law and the International Law Society. The event aimed to explore and highlight critical global issues such as food security, biodiversity, poverty, and the preservation of cultural heritage through powerful visual narratives.

The event began in the newly inaugurated hall at the SSL campus, welcoming all participants and attendees. The opening ceremony was graced by prominent figures, including Vrinda Chandak Mam, an acclaimed photographer, Neelavathi Mam, a noted advocate for gender equality, and Surya Kathir Sir, a photographer known for his work on religious ecstasy and transgender issues. The Principal of Saveetha School of Law, Prof. Dr. Asha Sundaram Mam, presided over the event as the chief convenor, with Ms. Fazila Faheem Mam, Assistant Professor at SSL, coordinating the event.

The ceremony commenced with a warm welcome address and the felicitation of the esteemed guests, followed by the official inauguration of the exhibition. Vrinda Chandak Mam then took the stage, sharing her life’s journey, her passion for photography, and how it has been a medium of social commentary and change. She emphasized the importance of photography in documenting reality and influencing public opinion on critical issues.

Following her, Neelavathi Mam addressed the audience with an inspiring talk focusing on gender equality and the role of law in shaping a just society. She provided invaluable advice to the students, encouraging them to be proactive in advocating for equal rights and justice. After the lunch break, the event resumed with a presentation by Surya Kathir Sir. He showcased his poignant works on religious ecstasy and the transgender community, highlighting the intersection of art and advocacy. The photo exhibition itself was a visual feast, with contributions from students and faculty members of SIMATS. The exhibition beautifully captured the essence of Chennai, showcasing the city's unique cultural heritage, architectural marvels, and vibrant life. Prizes were awarded in both the smartphone and DSLR categories, recognizing the exceptional talent of the students and faculty of SIMATS. In addition to the main awards, three special mention awards were presented to participants who demonstrated outstanding creativity and technical skill.
